TLT Grant Project — XR Training Game for Veteran Applicants
Overview
The TLT Grant Project is an XR training platform designed to support veteran college applicants as they transition into academic life. Developed through a collaboration between the Department of Psychology and a multidisciplinary design team, the project transforms psychological research into an immersive, interactive learning environment. I contributed as a professional 3D and Unity designer, working closely with researchers and developers.

Purpose

Veterans often face challenges with organization, adaptation, and navigating academic systems. This XR experience provides:
-
structured practice scenarios
-
a safe and repeatable learning environment
-
clear visual guidance
-
immersive spaces that support cognitive clarity
The project merges psychology, XR technology, and accessible design to improve learner confidence and readiness.

Team Collaboration
The project was created by a coordinated team including:
-
Psychologists — defining behavioral goals and learning strategies
-
Designers and 3D artists — developing visual and spatial environments
-
Unity developers — handling implementation and XR logic
Working together was essential, with constant communication and shared decision-making throughout the process.

Visual & XR Experience Design
My role focused on the entire visual development of the XR environment:
Environment & Art Direction

-
Realistic, cognitively clear academic-inspired spaces
-
Clean composition, readable lighting, and accessible layouts
-
Visual elements designed to reduce overload and guide user attention
3D Production (Blender)

-
Creation of all 3D assets from scratch
-
PBR texturing optimized for XR
-
Objects designed for intuitive interaction and spatial clarity
Unity Integration

-
Lighting setup and scene assembly
-
Asset organization and performance optimization
-
Ensuring visual consistency across the full XR experience
-
Close collaboration with developers and psychology faculty

My Contribution
I was responsible for:
-
All 3D modeling and texturing
-
Environment layout and visual storytelling
-
Unity integration and lighting
-
Supporting cross-disciplinary communication
-
Ensuring visuals aligned with psychology-driven goals

Outcome
The project demonstrates how educational psychology, XR design, and teamwork can combine to create impactful training experiences. My contribution centered on turning research concepts into clear, immersive, and accessible environments that support veteran learners through thoughtful visual design.
