The Two Sides of a Coin

Concept & Style

A hybrid between cinema and theatre, the project is staged almost like a live psychological performance rather than a traditional short movie. The atmosphere, pacing, and visual language are heavily inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s vision: long takes, controlled framing, and a slow-burn tension that builds through silence and body movement rather than jump scares.

Narrative

The story follows a protagonist who encounters a darker, mirrored version of himself. The film explores identity, duality, and the internal struggle between self-destruction and self-awareness.

Creative Role

Except for the acting (performed by classmate), every aspect: script, storyboard, cinematography, sound recording, editing, VFX, and color grading, was developed by me.

Technical Notes

  • Shot with a minimal setup for a raw, theatrical feel

  • Uses lighting contrasts and symmetrical compositions reminiscent of Kubrick

  • Emphasis on physical acting and stage-like blocking

  • Sound design built to enhance psychological tension
