INTO THE MATRIX
INTO THE MATRIX — Project Overview
Type: One-day experimental short combining AR and VFX
Class: Time & Motion
Core Theme: Exploring the boundary between augmented reality, green-screen illusion, and rapid VFX production
Concept & Style
Into the Matrix was developed as a one-day experiment that mixes live performance, AR elements, and quick green-screen compositing. The piece draws inspiration from the digital and distorted visual language of The Matrix, aiming to create a sense of shifting reality around the main character.
Narrative
The short follows a character moving between the physical world and a simulated digital layer. Instead of relying on a traditional plot, the project focuses on atmosphere, motion, and the visual tension between what is real and what is digitally constructed.
Production Approach
The work was created within a single day using a simple in-class setup. All the technical aspects, including concept development, filming, AR integration, visual effects, compositing, and editing, were handled directly, while classmates participated through their acting.
Technical Notes
Real-time AR components were combined with post-production VFX. Techniques such as masking, digital distortion, and motion blur were used to create the sense of instability and immersion that defines the piece.
